Element Ununseptium, Uus

History

Yuri Oganessian with colleagues in Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna (Russia) reports the synthesis of element number 117, or to be more precise about synthesis of two different isotopes of Ununseptium. The synthesis was based on bombarding of Berkelium-249 by high energy Calcium 48. The resulted isotopes contains 117 protons and 176 and 177 neutrons respectively.

Now all 118 elements are discovered and observed. Oganessian report his work "Represent an experimental verification for the existence of the predicted ‘Island of Stability’ for super-heavy elements." in Physical Review Letters
